When one does not know something, one can only imagine.
This is the starting point for the recreation of my fictional habitats, where plastic toys and artificial plants are contained in glass as real species.
In the XV and XVI centuries Europeans started traveling to the “New world” and discovering new plants and animals. Natural collections were started with much ignorance, but the experiences and research lead to knowledge. For this project, I started making “naturalist’s” trips to local markets and collecting the species I could find. Taking them later back to my studio where I could “recreate” the environment where I thought they might come from.
