Movie Poster - INTROSPECTION
For this assignment I was asked to create a fictional sci-fi movie poster. I wanted to start my creation with finding the right movie name, "Introspection" came to mind after a few minutes of brainstorming and it stuck with me. I then drew out ten rough poster designs that fit with the title concept (see below) and used this time to decide exactly what I wanted the poster result to be like.

After researching and narrowing down my concept, I chose 4 images to put into a composition for the final design. The definition of Introspection is "the examination or observation of one's own mental and emotional processes.". I used this definition to guide me in my poster making.

To reach my final design, I brought in the 4 photographs above into Photoshop. Using a layer mask, I cut out the face of the woman in the background. Moving her cutout face near her hand, using the brush tools to adjust the mask, and adding some shading to the face created the effect of her face being separated from her head. I wanted to create an effect inside of the cut area and brought in the abstract photograph to place in that space. I also placed a plastic overlay on top of her face to give it texture. Lastly I used bevel & emboss on the inner edges of the face to create a more realistic effect.

I wanted the viewer to feel like they were looking through a window to see this woman removing her face, so I placed the image of the glass clock/window over her to get this result. Using the Linear Burn overlay gave it a nice look and allowed us to still see the woman clearly. Using a low opacity brush, I cleared up some areas to allow us to see her even more clearly inside the window. After a few image adjustments, I was finished with the poster image.

I then placed the poster title, the subtitle, and the box credits on the poster to complete it. This is my final result.
