Known as a home to some of the top hiking spots in the Northeastern United States, New Jersey is rich in natural beauty. Here are three of the state's most famous hiking spots:

1. Franklin Parker Preserve. Located in Chatsworth in the Pine Barrens, this preserve is comprised of 16 square miles and features four hiking trails, some of which are for hikers only whereas others are open to bike and horseback riders. Hiking trails in the preserve pass through blueberry fields, pine forest, and by a cedar swamp.

2. Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area. Situated in Montville, this area includes a visitor center and is comprised of 1,675 acres for hikers to explore. Hikers enjoy trekking past a diverse range of landscapes including wetlands, rock outcrops, and forest. Also a part of the historic site, the Kincaid Access Area features less busy trails that are popular with experienced hikers.

3. Monument Trail Loop in High Point State Park. This 3.5-mile long hiking trail is located in Sussex County and takes hikers to the highest point in the state after completing a 500-foot gain in elevation. At the top of the trail, hikers can view the High Point Monument, which stands above the stunning countryside.
