Emulating David McCord

Time for Another Project!

I'm using a project from a past class again for this one! We had to emulate the style of David McCord, who is a technical illustrator. That is, he creates illustrations for products to explain the technical part of it to a generally non-technical audience. My project turned out more painterly than realistic, though.

It may or may not surprise you that I was a show choir kid in high school! In my sophomore year, we did a show based around Scheherazade, the story-teller in the Arabian Nights story, 1001 Nights.

Here are some action shots from the show!
So what does this have to do with what I did for this project?

I chose to illustrate a part of our costumes! The jewelry pieces that the girls are wearing on their foreheads are called tikkas. And... that's what I decided to do!

I've got the reference image of the tikka up close and my rendition of it here:
What did I do to get here? Luckily for me, I documented some of the process of making it.
So! I went a little more painterly than David McCord, but I think I would still classify it as a technical illustration. I've got a few different versions of my tikka here!

You can really see all the work and time that went into it because of the line illustration version!
Anywho, this is just an illustration because that's what I'd love to do. Check out Synergy! This particular year isn't on YouTube, but the other three years are!

Work hard, and maybe you won't have to work on things like this for 1001 nights!
