Can a typeface be a punch line? Absolutely—especially if it’s designed for a publication with an audience of typographers. This playfully peculiar face was custom-tailored for Typography 32, the annual of the Type Directors Club, in which Mucca Design confronts the subjectivity of taste. Creative Director Matteo Bologna and I drew inspiration from the TDC’s 1958 annual and consulted original 19th-Century types for a sensitive (but not slavish) revival.
