A wire beetle that I made for RISD fall semester 3D class. I chose to make a wire sculpture based off of a goliath beetle. Before making the sculpture, I drew the beetle from multiple angles to get an idea of how to sculpt it. After I had my drawings and information, I began by making a wire head. I then moved to the torso and legs. I used thick steel wire for the the general outline of the major parts such as the head, shell, legs, etc. Next, I went back in with medium and thin wire for the details such as the spots on the back of the shell, eyes, contour of the legs, etc. This was my first time ever using wire as a medium for art.
