With this portrait of my father, I wanted to try my hand at chiaroscuro, using a high contrast of light and shadow to create a dynamic composition. I painted it over the course of three days, using acrylic paints on a 18 x 24" canvas.
In progress photograph of the painting. This is a poor quality photograph, as the colors are actually much closer to the end result than they seem. The main part still unfinished is the chair, which is a much darker pink here.
In progress photograph. Much of the underdrawing is still visible.
