CORE2291 Design Lab 1: Project 5 Expressive Type Design
The goal of this project is to express the meaning of a word by using clean graphics and supporting visuals to showcase its definition.  After the art for the word is made, there are ways to professionally apply it to 3D mockups in programs such as Adobe Dimension.  What's most important is the process in planning out, drawing out, and figuring out how a project would look like in a 3D space.
Techniques
1.  I measured out the margins and amount of pages I will need for my images.  I then placed my images and organized them by specific categories.
2.  Before I could do anything, However, I went to my A-Master page and created several columns to line up my images accordingly.
3.  Onto the next step, this is my work in progress for creating my final word art.  I experimented with different color palettes for my lettering and supporting graphics.
4.  Different sets of my original swatches.  After I decided what color palette I would use, I deleted all of the unused swatches.
5.  After some more details, I ended up with a final design for my word art and three artboards.
7.  After experimenting with lighting and slapping my word art into a pre-rendered asset, I waited for my rendering to load into a .psd file.
8.  Final presentation board :^)
Visual Exploration:  Mind Map, Moodboards, & Initial Sketches
My mind map explored different ways I could convey the feeling of the word halcyon.  Halcyon, according to Google, means "denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful".  The definition also applies to the classification of a specific bird.  Its word origins are from a combination of Greek words.
The first moodboard consists of general lettering and fonts that I would not mind trying out.  I liked the idea of crude notebook paper drawings and simple lettering.
This moodboard presents an even more general idea of what I wanted my lettering to look like using different font styles.  I liked the bubble logo and decided to sample the colors.  I will possibly use them for the final project.
The images shown below show the childish innocence I want to bring out in my word.  I used ideas such as notebook doodles, alphabet magnets, and crayons as examples.
Different color palettes I found around the internet that I found appealing and fit the idea I had for my word.
My initial sketches are combined ideas about childhood innocence, peace, and being outside when the sun is out.  I believe it best encapsulates the meaning of halcyon.  The main points I wanted to draw were small doodles around the word, notebook paper, fridge magnets, and crayon handwriting.  I also implemented the sun, birds, and clouds in most of my sketches.
