Second step
After talking to Mr. Liam last week. I found that the information I searched was incomplete, and I also had some ideas. I need to consider the function of this handle and the user when it was in the Middle Ages. However, what can be changed and improved now. Boldly try and use some interesting materials to complete.

At that time, the handle of the knife was used by the royal family and nobles to decorate tableware. The more magnificent appearance can highlight their power, status, and wealth. And there were very complicated table manners at the time, and each tableware had its own food. So knives were basically used for decoration at that time, so there are such complicated patterns and many decorations on them. Because the meat cutters and food stewards will cut the meat in advance before serving it to the table.
ands are the most important eating tool (The etiquette at the time even suggested that the most elegant way to eat solid food is to pick up small pieces of food with three fingers, and only dip the fingertips into the soup. Educated decent behavior is to suck the soup from your fingertips or wipe it off on a tablecloth.).......

Drew a mind map, put some key words and key sentences on it, and see what connections they have.
Then I started to make some associations for his shortcomings.
Disadvantages: 1. Use elephant teeth for carving. In medieval Europe, people's understanding of elephants was extremely vague, but the symbolic meaning of elephants in terms of status and wealth was always clear. A Portuguese missionary witnessed and recorded this horrific scene when he visited Tarso Island in 1663: "A British ship was loaded with 28,000 ivory, of which a considerable part of the ivory exceeded 58 kilograms. It is said that there will be one every year. The ship took away a similar amount of ivory. 28,000 ivory represented the slaughter of at least 14,000 elephants. (Elephant Destiny)

2. He has no substantive role, complicated and gorgeous appearance.

So I have some ideas.
It can be said that this material is not environmentally friendly and cruel. Then how to improve, just use something to make a new handle. The meaning is to Let people care for the environment and respect life. So I plan to pick up some leaves, branches, foam paper, cardboard boxes, plastic packaging and so on. Then I had always thought that the role of this handle was to show off the vanity of the nobles and their authority. Then they didn't use a knife anytime, but the housekeeper cut them. I just wanted to make a delicate handle that is easy to use and easy to hold. But I think the first idea is more creative and more challenging. I can try some crazy experiments with these interesting materials.
So I started to go out and collect some dry branches and flowers in the park. And collect some unnecessary box, fruit wrapping paper, plastic wrapping paper, my sister’s homework paper, etc.
I chose my table knife as the reference object, and then sketch the collection. I am analyzing its structure and the length I need to make.Think about what to put on this handle.
I drew a simple draft based on my theme "Environmental Protection". In my thinking,  the branches are very similar to the antlers of a deer, and then the antlers also be connected with the teeth of an elephant. Because they are all part of animal bodies, and they are often used as decorations. I looked at many photos of deer and drew some pictures of antlers. This will make it easier for me to conceive the shape of the product. In combination with the knife, there is a lot of rubbishes and some mushrooms entwined on it. Maybe I will inlay some shiny objects in it. I want to show that environmental pollution and animal hunting are very serious problems.
The original plan today was to use clay to make a rough outline, and then use those scraps to do some texture experiments while waiting.
But unfortunately it is. . . . The house cleaner mistook them for rubbish and threw them away. So today I went out again to look for new things. so sad😢
