Week 1

WEEK 2

Group discussion:

My group thinks that this photograph presents a positive presentation of Sydney Opera House because the colors and lively ambience seem pleasing to the eyes. It has a calm ambience as the photograph was taken during a beautiful sunset, with calm blue, purple and subtle orange tones. There are warm yellow lights that brighten the picture, as it was almost night time and they had to turn on lights. The photo was taken in a static angle rather than experiential as its purpose is to get the whole view of the Opera House and posted on a tourism website, rather than getting artistic and experimental shots.

WEEK 3

WEEK 4

Draw three systems that you have reactions to. Take note of the things that cause that reaction. Is it the form of the system? Is it your interaction? Is it the steps in the process? Is it the function or effectiveness?

1. sink (water flow system)
-> I interact with this system on a daily basis. It is an enjoyable rather than an unenjoyable system as I often use the sink to wash my oily face, after a long day of online class or doing my assignments. My subconscious reaction when interacting with this system is feeling re-energised as the water touches my face. Afterwards, I feel fresh as it is an effect of the water system’s function and effectiveness.

2. Stairs (elevation system)
-> I also interact with this system on a daily basis. I find this system quite unenjoyable when interacting with it, as it is laborious and drains my body’s energy. The process of going up the stairs has a more unenjoyable feeling than going down, as my feet would have to defy gravity when going up the stairs. Afterwards, as an effect of interacting with this system, I would feel exhausted and my heartbeat would rise for a couple of minutes before cooling down.

3. Sofa (sitting system)
-> I interact with this system on a daily basis and it is enjoyable doing so. Interacting with it makes me feel relaxed and also relieved as the system’s function is to make the user feel comfort. However sometimes, I feel that I can also start feeling responsible because it is a place where I do my tasks and go to online classes too. The reason why I do tasks on the sofa is because of its function and effectiveness in delivering comfort, therefore its positive effect is that I feel less tired when doing tasks in that area.

Sketch 3 experiences, feelings, or thoughts you’ve had this week using your home environment and explain the drawing.

This drawing represents myself feeling under stress, depressed, and afterwards feeling happy as I experienced drowning in assessments, particularly design project’s first assessment where we have to prepare a presentation and finish all the 20 pages concept book as seen in my tablet and laptop’s screens. The TV screen portrays me listening to lo-fi music while doing tasks as a way to get through it during hard times. I have not had a day where I can rest even though I had begin to work on it since the first week. The sun and moon represents me working day and night for the assessment, and the sofa is where I sit and do those tasks.

My group’s drawing of ‘justice’:

WEEK 5

Define human centred design (with our group):

Observation task (Shibuya Crossing):

WEEK 6

Begin sketching your design ideas for an object which includes an animal (or animals) of your choice into your system. Think about what is natural for the animal. How can we make its life easier, how can the human and animal use the object to co-exist more equally?

Connecting the object with my project 1 system: indigenous knowledge, I decided to put the timescape into the past where war is brewing and guard dogs are trained to fight the enemies. I created a training spot for both guard dogs and humans. This is to let them train together and let dogs train to fight better and have a less chance of losing in a fight with humans which could make them end up dead.

If there is time, consider your own daily interactions with animals (birds in the city, insects in your home, taking care of pets).
How much control do you, personally, have over those animals?
Sketch a collection of images that show your typical interaction with animals- showing action and behaviour.

I am usually scared of bees because they could sting. I ignore lizards in my house since it’s harmless, I kill mosquitoes because if not we get bitten every now and then, but I like seeing butterflies as they are pretty and harmless.
