'Garuda'
Garuda is a legendary bird or bird-like creature . He is variously the vehicle mount (vahana) of the Hindu god Vishnu, a dharma-protector .
Garuda is described as the king of birds and a kite-like figure. He is shown either in zoomorphic form (giant bird with partially open wings) or an anthropomorphic form (man with wings and some bird features). Garuda is generally a protector with power to swiftly go anywhere, ever watchful and an enemy of the serpent.

From the Indian mythological creatures
Makara is a sea creature from Indian mythology depicted as half terrestrial in frontal part(generally deer and elephant)and half aquatic).Makara appears as the vehicle of the river goddess Ganga, Narmada and of the sea god Varuna. Makara are considered guardians of gateways and thresholds, protecting throne rooms as well as entryways to temples.
'Naga'
Naga is a member of a class of mythical semidivine beings, half human and half cobra. They live in an underground kingdom which is filled with resplendent palaces, beautifully ornamented with precious gems. They are also associated with waters—rivers, lakes, seas, and wells—and are guardians of treasure.
'Yali'
 A mythical creature seen in many south indian temples, often sculpted onto the pillars. It may be portrayed as part lion, part elephant and part horse, and in similar shapes. Also, it has been sometimes described as a leogryph (part lion and part griffin, they became prominent in south Indian sculpture in the 16th century. Yalis were believed to be more powerful than the lion, the tiger or the elephant.
