Rememberance

I am the black void. I am my own creation. I willingly struggle with my own burdens and find relief through the creation of a temporary earthen form falling at a constant acceleration of 9.8 m/s squared. The golden ring is a reference to The Catcher in the Rye and the risk taken to let the reserved water fall. It is always a painful and shocking process, and I accept the cleansing rain as a baptism of my newfound land and body. The suspended apparatus above my ritual is largely related to the rendering of geological forms and tectonic plates. There are three layers of plastic, all different sizes, with holes in them to mimic the natural process of percolation. All of them are hand sewn and suspended with monofilament. The water released is about 2 gallons and the sand bag weighs approximately 30 pounds. The area covered at the base is roughly 7'x10'.
