The first building is located in the north, it refers to the “future”. As time passes and as the community grows, platforms are added. It shows the uncertainty of the future and it is up to the community to continue building it.
The second building is “festive”. It represents the people of Maré, the Samba and the women's dances at the carnival. The curves of the construction symbolize the movement of the hips and the undulations of the body when performing typical dances. The third building is “home”. It represents the organization of the favelas, the particular order that is observed in the streets of Maré and how each house is in a specific place.
The building in the south is a lookout tower that represents “resistance”, it is a building that allows the community to observe the city and for the community to be shown in contrast to the barrier at the other side of Maré.
The project proposes different textures along the paths, the squares and the parks. Each area of the project tells a different story, but they are connected, the composition and the differences between the textures allow us to see the stories and the small pieces that build them.
Focos de Maré is a project constituted of three strategies that work together complementing each other. These allow to locate, connect and for new constructions to be built, this strategy would reform the industrial area of Maré. The first strategy establishes four structures that follow each a concept that the community has identified, these buildings are places were not only the people of Maré can get together but also collectives that work for the community can also use them. The second strategy links the squares of the buildings to form a path that allows a journey from the building in the north to the one south in order to feel the trans formations and the old spaces between the blocks. Lastly, around each building there’s a radius that delimits an area that is influenced by the project directly, at the intersections between the radius, topographic parks are born that support the development of the area.
