"Migrating Elephants" Acrylic Painting

For another project that was given in an undergraduate painting course, the objective was to create a painting that told a story to the viewer. I started out by brainstorming some ideas and sketching them in my sketchbook. I chose to paint a picture of live elephants and tusks from deceased elephants that were killed and taken from nature by cruel elephant hunters. I sketched the layout of the painting, finding placements for each of the elements in the paining. When I was satisfied with the layout, I began to paint using a variety of different colors for the background, the elephants and the tusks. One of the elephants appears to be coming toward the viewer, while a pack of elephants is following in the distance.  A trail of elephant tusks lies scattered on the side of the road as a sign of danger as the elephants are walking forward in the piece. This piece successfully helps to tell the story of how these gentle giants are savagely  destroyed for the ivory in their tusks.  A senseless act of destruction.
