In polymorphic imagery, human fantasy combined the essential traits of the original animals, creating many fictional creatures of varying degrees of popularity. The habitat of such creatures was often indicated inaccessible areas on the border of civilization - deserts, tops of mountains, forests, seas, etc., as well as distant countries, with the inhabitants of which the given people had practically no contacts.
