Collaborative project between Schwerdt Design Group (architect of record) and DLR Group (design architect), completed in 2017, one of the largest Pre-K through 8th grade campuses in the midwest, located in Topeka Kansas. The decision was made to create an academy with a fine arts focus. The school presents an opportunity to impact the entire community and shape the future of generations to come. The project called for the addition of a state of the art elementary school to an existing middle school built in the 1960's. The addition also included a modern media center for the middle school seen as the large orange box element from the exterior of the building. The flexible, adaptable design of the new facility responds to the latest innovations in educational design, and tailors itself to adapt with changing demands of the future. Designed spaces look beyond traditional learning environments, making use of collaborate learning spaces, transparency and outdoor connection.
