Design of a mechanism for a machine that wrings clothes:
Duration: 2 weeks
Brief: To take any repetitive action done manually and convert it into a mechanism making it as complex as possible. The mechanism created has to be driven by hand.
Action chosen: wringing clothes
The mechanism does 2 things.
1. The 2 clamps holding the cloth rotate in opposite directions causing the 'wringing' action to take place.
2. The cloth length reduces as wringing occurs, so one of the clamps is mounted on a spline shaft that moves forward as the cloth shrinks due to squeezing.
