'Glass Box' Extension, Pinner, North London
2PM Architects designed this 'glass box' side extension, refurbishment and coutyard design to this end of terrace property in Pinner, North London in 2010.
The brief for the project was to create a newly extended, modern, bright and airy dining room that has a stong visual connection with the small outside space, both day and night, and creates a contemporary space for entertaining, dining and living.
The main seating and dining areas have been opended up, and the introduction of a new rooflight between the two brings light deep in to the plan during the day. The 'glass box' side extension gives extra width to the refurbished dining room space and a much improved sense of connection with the courtyard garden space.
New ceilings, lighting and limestone floors are installed throughout with underfloor heating to keep a crisp and contemporary look to the space. Externally the existing old brickwork dividing wall is clad in timber and a cantilevered planter is created above an illuminated water pool.
