In addition to these activities, Donato Marinelli also enjoys staying active by hiking.

Although New Jersey is small in size, it is packed with popular hiking trails. Here are just a few of the state’s top places for nature enthusiasts to explore:

Stairway to Heaven
Located in northern New Jersey, Stairway to Heaven is a 2.5-mile stretch along the 7.3-mile trail running from Pochuck Valley to Pinwheel Vista. The stretch begins at the end of the Pochuck Boardwalk trail and offers stunning views of hardwood forests, wildflower fields, a boulder field, and train tracks.

Mt. Tammany
This steep uphill trail takes hikers 3.5 miles over the Delaware Water Gap in Warren County. While the hike is rocky and strenuous, the trail is often crowded due to its popularity and the rewarding views over the water gap of Pennsylvania and Mt. Minsi that hikers enjoy once they pass over the mountains.

Ramapo Mountain State Park
While visitors can enjoy great views along the nearly six-mile drive from Route 287 to Route 511, hiking into the woods of Ramapo Mountain State Forest offers some of the best sights. Located in Ringwood, the forest covers 4,200 acres of land in Passaic and Bergen Counties, and features views of castle ruins and the New York skyline.
