New Canaan Cares - Student Leadership Programs

Venture capitalist Kevin Graetz is a leadership consultant working with startups to put strategic people on their boards. A resident of New Canaan, Connecticut, Kevin Graetz supports the local nonprofit New Canaan Cares.

New Canaan Cares is committed to inspiring youth to become tomorrow’s leaders. The nonprofit does this through a number of after-school programs for children in the 3rd through to 12th grade.

For elementary school children, New Canaan Cares runs KidPower, a unique program offered in the spring of every year. Here, children in the 3rd and 4th grade come together to engage in games and learning activities under the guidance of the organization’s faculty. These activities are designed to build self-confidence and communication and team building skills.

For those in middle school, New Canaan Cares runs a six-week spring program that matches participants with adult mentors and their peers to develop their leadership qualities. Through these interactions, students learn about decision-making, problem solving, and public speaking.

For high school students, the organization has a leadership program that takes them out of the classroom and places them in community organizations where they take part in meaningful projects, making a positive difference in other people’s lives. This program focuses on helping students develop their communication, organizational, and time management skills.
