Live sketching

Sometime around the start of this year, I casually joined a friend for a sketching party at a local chai tapri. We sat there for hours and drew anything and everything that we saw around us. I have never stopped since. Sketching has become an integral part of me. I always carry a small sketchbook and a pen wherever I go. I feel, sketching makes me look at things differently. I have started noticing things in minute details. As subjects, I would say, people really intrigue me, their actions, their attitude, the way they use a particular space. I always try to maintain their gesture in my sketches.

I have also started experimenting with different mediums and my strokes have become more confident. Just a sketchbook and a pen seemed insufficient for me to carry around. Hence, I curated a small fanny pack which had my stationary and a sketchbook. I put together diverse mediums like alchohol markers, gelly roller, water colors, etc. Mixing different mediums gave my sketches a different character. My fanny pack thus became my sketching pack.

The next sketchbook was much diverse in nature in terms of the mediums used. By now, sketching had become a routine and one of my never ending projects.

I would try to capture the essence of the person in front. These are some live sketching experiments done digitally.
