This is the second maniere noir lithograph is the second in my series of two in response to the vanitas paintings at the Met. In this image I focused more on the pursuit of pleasure than knowledge or success. Often what we seek as desirable is in fact rotten or unripe at the time we demand to be given it. Fruit is a treat; sensual and vulnerable. These fruits, rotten and past their prime, opened and taken by force, represent our blindness to the good things in life and relentless obtainment of the wrong things.
