PSA Urban Flooding
What is Urban Flooding?
It occurs when water flows into an urban region (such as Bandar Seri Begawan) faster than it can be absorbed into the soil or moved to and stored in a lake or river. It can be caused by flash flooding, coastal flooding, river floods or the accumulation of waste products blocking the sewer drain when it rains.
How do we as individuals can do to prevent or reduce the risks of urban flooding?
Please properly dispose of your trash at bins that are prepared for the public, If there is no bins on site please keep the trash to yourselves and throw it at a proper bin when found.
Greetings everyone! I apologize for the lack of updates on this account but I am glad to be back!
For this weeks task, we are required to create an environmental awareness Public Service Announcement post for Instagram. For my theme I chose Urban Flooding as it suits for me during my country's Monsoon Season. The image above is Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of my country Brunei Darussalam. I made the image to convey my intent of what would happened if the city would have an urban flood. The postcard style is to convey an ironic image of Bandar Seri Begawan towards visitors outside the country as a dirty place to be in hence my PSA.
PROCESS
For the final image above I used the software Adobe Photoshop.
For the first part of the process, I used a stock photo i downloaded online then proceed to trace the shapes of the building.
Next, I added the street lamps, cars and the background. I chose to have this flooding be at night because most of the heavy downpour i experienced had occur at night.
Then I added the the flood and trash to enforce my message of urban flooding caused by pollution.
I then added details such as the rain and windows for the buildings and a moon to know that it was night time. I then made some of the trash float and appear on the surface of the water, same goes for the cars.
For the finishing touches, I added a border surrounding the image and overlay some textures to make it look like an authentic postcard.
After adding the caption "Only you can prevent this", which refers to the individual who collectively will prevent this unfortunate event if we all work together, This is the result.
