light installation

// data, Processing, dmx light, wood frame / panels, paper

6 minutes is a data visualisation piece focusing on portraying the impacts of earthquake, magnitude 9, that struck Tohoku, Japan. Inspired by the regions culture, the work takes form of traditional Japanese interior. It portraits a fragment of such a personal, private space to highlight people’s loss in the fight with an overwhelming power of a natural disaster. The light here is a symbol of life. The spirit of people stays strong in the event of terrible tragedy.
The source of data is derived from a seismic waveform graph portraying the movement of the ground during the shaking. It drives the intensity of the light creating distressing atmosphere. The viewer becomes a witness of the tragedy for 6 minute.
