These are a few images from the series "Ditches". I spent several years exploring the man-made system of diverting mountain run off to a variety of destinations for agriculture, residential use, and recreation. I am fascinated by how these trenches have become beautiful natural features after a century of evolution. I decided to use pinhole for this project because the small pinhole regulates light entering the camera to control the volume, just as the sluice gates placed all along the ditch system regulate the flow of water entering other ditches throughout the year. The paths I walked have been traveled many times by the "Ditch Riders", a group of individuals tasked with maintaining the waterways and sluice gates that control them year after year.
