Problem
Winter is around the corner and this leaves newborn babies vulnerable and exposed to sickness and even death. With the lockdown due to be lifted in stages and baby essentials now being available for mothers, this still does not solve the problem for mothers who are afraid to travel or those who can not afford any warm clothing for their newborn babies or infants.
According to the Huggies website, baby essentials add up to approximately R3000 a month. This includes medical aid for the baby, nappies, wipes, clothing, toiletries and vaccinations. You will need R2000 every 3 months for clothing due to the growth rate of babies between 0 – 6 months.

Solution
The solution is to use the knitting and crochet community and encourage them to donate knitted clothing to mothers with newborn babies up to 6 months of age. The knitted clothing will be donated to Yarn Me Softly, who will create various packages from the knitted clothing and distribute them to local provincial hospitals and clinics.
