LE BOURGEOIS GENTILHOMME/KİBARLIK BUDALASI
Stage Design, 2019
In the first half of 2019, “The Misanthrope” by Molière was restaged, taking into consideration observations about the play. The play, which was originally performed with a decor that was considered unpretentious a spatial design transformation due to the social and cultural criticism relevant to the time it was written.
The aim was to create a set design that could establish references to the period for the contemporary audience to better integrate with the historical time, space, and characters.
For the play performed in a single spatial, a new functional layout was designed based on the dramaturgy.
The scenes involving Monsieur Jourdain and Count Dorante were set in the 1st room, the shared scenes were placed in the 2nd room, and the scenes with Lucile, Madame Jourdain, and Nicole were arranged in the 3rd room.
The stage design of the play was based on the concept of switching the lights of the staging room on and off, rather than relying on the entrance and exit of actors onto the stage.
This was done with the aim of conveying to the audience the idea of being a spectator to a life that unfolds within itself through a sensory experience.
