Its focus on health includes bringing attention to toxins in food, for example in kale, as discovered by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

In creating its 2020 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, EWG identified non-organic kale as one of the most contaminated vegetables, with residues of at least two pesticides on 92 percent of samples taken and up to 18 different kinds on some kale. Pesticide residues included Dacthal (DCPA), listed by the Environmental Protection Agency as a potential human carcinogen since 1995.
There is also a high pesticide content spinach, strawberries, nectarines and peaches.Cleaner foods are protected by a thick skin such as non-organic
Avocados,pineapple,sweet corn and papaya.
These facts caused EWG to place kale in third place on its list of the Dirty Dozen, the worst contaminated non-organic fruits and vegetables. As a result, consumers should be aware of the potential risks along with the health benefits present from kale's high level of antioxidants and vitamins.
