2. Technological Revolution

ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Sound design developed for existing animations within the theme of "Technology", in the context of a sound design class for university

ANIMATIONS USED:
-"Moby & The Void Pacific Choir - Are You Lost In The World Like Me?" (animation by Steve Cutts)
-"Jane Bordeaux - Ma'agalim" (directed by Uri Lotan)

CONCEPT:

1. Industrial Revolution
Being the main focus of the animation the negative side of technology, there was a focus on associating this mindset with the opposition Industrial Revolution-Romanticism. With the surfacing of new models of production and technological advancements, there was a big shift in both social and cultural paradigms. As a response to these changes, and so as to fight reason and science, Romanticism tried to protect nature and emotion in an almost exagerated way.
The Industrial Revolution is, therefore, represented by the city soundscape and the sounds of machinery. Meanwhile, the main characters are associated with sounds of nature and music from the Romantic era.
The ending, with the poem "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud", by William Wordsworth, tries to showcase these two opposing views, with a robotic voice reading Romantic era poetry.

2. Technological Revolution
The animation is centered around a penny arcade, with an ever-changing population and a main character that finds herself stuck, until she manages to set herself free.
Since penny arcades first appeared in the 20th century, I decided to create an association between the animation and the futurist movement, more specifically, it's viewpoint of sound.
The Art of Noises defined "noise-sound" as the most elevated, setting itself free from traditional instruments and sound. It also defended that it was possible to reject predictability in music through changes in tone and timbre. As the character escapes her story in the penny arcade, the sound of the animation escapes from the natural and conventional.
