Pen-pals - Tangible/Intangible postcard

Hey!

It's been a while since we last wrote to each other, but it's given me a lot of time and topics to think about, especially being on lockdown inside my own house. I've come to take interest on the concepts of tangible and intangible realities, what we can touch and what we can't touch. I came across this idea when the scent of an incense by my living room TV reminded me of a place I've been to. Perhaps it was because the incense was eucalyptus and where I live in Australia there's an abundance of them, but regardless, I found it fascinating how a scent can trigger memories that remind us of how something looked, smelt, sounded, and maybe even tasted like, but can't tell us how it felt as it is just a memory, an intangible reality. All that was left of that memory was a tangible object, an incense, and a painting that replicated the landscape of that memory. Enough about me, I want to know your thoughts on this concept. Do you agree or do you think I'm crazy? If not, what are some tangible/intangible objects in your home? How does it make you feel?

Eagerly awaiting your response! :D

Hey Ameer,

I received your postcard and it got me thinking on the music of the wilderness as it's what my mind has been wrapped around lately. Apart from the smell of the wilderness, the sound of the wilderness can also insinuate memories of a place one has once been. It can remind us of how a place smelt, sounded, looked, and possibly tasted like. Just like scent, the only memento left of that memory is a tangible object reminding us of an intangible reality. But yes, I completely agree with your idea of music/sound allowing us to imagine the unseen.

Hope to hear from you soon! :D
