James McDonough Chicago's profile

Public Transit Authority Fortifying Transportation

Chicago resident James McDonough launched McDonough Associates after he worked for the Chicago Transit Authority in the late 1970s. At that time, James McDonough also served in various positions with the American Public Transit Authority (APTA), a nonprofit international organization that comprises 1,500 private and public organizations.

In its advocacy for improved transportation, APTA is establishing a Mobility Recovery and Restoration Task Force to shore up one of the country’s vital resources - transportation. The task force’s first activities will include retaining the confidence of the public and drafting measures to safeguard employees and riders.

With a focus on helping with the nation’s economic recovery, the task force will be charged with exploring new methods and discovering tools for better transportation. A spotlight has been placed on the need to reinforce transit across the country because transportation is often a lifeline to get both people and supplies in and out of affected areas.
