Bio:
Anne Beal discovered the thrill of painting and playing the violin at an early age. She studied animation and filmmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design. At RISD, she fell in love with animation because of its endless avenues for experimentation. Being an animator allows her to combine her practices of music, painting, and dance. Anne is fascinated with sound, constructing soundscapes from her own field recordings and sessions with her violin and viola. She uses the sensory powers of color and sound to tell stories about grief, contentment, and exuberance.
Anne's degree project film, "Balance and Swing," premiered at the French film festival, Les Nuits Magiques, in December of 2012. This summer it is an Official Selection of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2013. "Balance and Swing" is currently touring with the Black Maria Film Festival, and received a Director's Choice Award. "Balance and Swing" also screens in late April at the SENE Film, Music, and Arts Festival in Providence.
Originally from Asheville, NC, Anne lives and works as a freelance animator in Chicago, IL. Read Less
