About Burko
Making real art for real people. Jessica Burko has been a working artist, writer and educator for more than two decades. She creates one-of-a-kind mixed media art from original and found photographs, ephemera and encaustic. Additionally, Burko is an independent curator, and the Director of the juried artists group Boston Handmade.
About the Art
With her paper quilts and encaustic collages, Jessica Burko explores non-linear, autobiographical narrative created through upcycling and combining found ephemera with original imagery. The stitched, assembled, layered aspects of life, pieces of domestic space, and non-traditional portraits, are both real and imagined. With her artwork, Burko unifies discarded materials as a way to reclaim the past and blend it with the present.
